Updated: Mar 6, 2019

- A Gentle Idol -

Behind our committed teachers are an even more dedicated group of admin staff. One of them is none other than our beloved Kaka Niya. Kaka Niya has been with us for more than 7 years! Being through the thick and thin of the ECA Tuition School, we wanted to know what motivates her and drives her to keep going. Are you ready? Let's find out!

ECA : You were here for so long! What made you stay seven years?

NIYA : Maybe because of Teck Sion? (Laughs) Seriously! He’s nice. And it’s nice working with him. And then, you know, he’s very understanding, so we don’t have problem with him. And working with him is like working with your family. (Laughs) It’s because, you know, it’s hard to find a nice manager. So we decide to stay here for so long.

ECA : What do you usually handle here?

NIYA : Usually, we dealing with the customer - uh, parents, and we remind them through Whatsapp about the replacement class and the cancellation class. Everything we handle about the classes here. And then do the general cleaning. And then, do attendance, calculate salary. Not much lah! (Laughs)

ECA : Can you tell us a little bit about what it’s like working here? Is it stressful?

NIYA : Sometimes, ada lah… stress, when it comes to replacement. We have to set replacement and the teacher has to cancel again. And then, we have to contact the parents. So… we have to… (Laughs) So, we have to set another replacement, which is, um, you know, the school is fully classed, so, it’s... kind of hard to set lah. So and then we try to set on Sunday, but then the parents cakap cannot set on Sunday! (Laughs)

ECA : One more question - Do you plan to continue to study?

NIYA : Uh… So far, no? But I’m planning to open a small business for my bakery. Like, doing cookies and kek lapis, kek roll, like that. Been doing this since I was… 18? I already registered my business license. But, you know, you have to learn lagi kan, to open the business, you know, mini shop. So far, you know, there is up and downs.

Thank you, Kaka Niya! It has been such a blessing to have you help in the day-to-day running of the school. We can't believe you managed to juggle all of that while still overseeing your own bakery business! Here's a little look at her delicious cakes and cookies.
